Breweries in California are required by law to only fill their own growler's.
My experience in Colorado has been mixed, I'm not sure if there is a law, but some breweries will refuse to fill growler's that aren't there own.
Am I just not seeing the rationale for this law/rule? It's a glass bottle; who cares what it says on it? Do some breweries do that just to sell more growlers? I mainly go to Chama and Blue Corn. Good thing they play nicely....
I wouldn't think it is a money thing, definitely not with Brady (Il Vicino's brewer), at least. That is true in California, as Jeff said, and also in Chicago. Whole Foods had a bunch of growlers, but the guy told me they couldn't fill them because the law said they couldn't fill them because of that law.
