Crying the Beer Week Blues
Ok, so things haven't exactly started off so smoothly for ABQ Beer Week, at least at one of the local bars slated to host events during the week: Imbibe. First, the expected keg of Ska DIFF turns out to be a keg of Orange Cream Stout. Not a bad mistake, but not what was promised. But then I get reports of people being charged $10 for a 12 oz. pour- that's a little more than it is worth, don't you think? This isn't Pliny the Younger, for Christ's sake!
And then, on top of that, I told you that Imbibe would be tapping kegs of Green Flash Imperial IPA...and honestly, it's a damn shame that I have to make this sound like a big deal, considering pretty much EVERY market that carries Green Flash has kegs of the Imperial IPA on tap in bars on a regular basis- and it turns out we can't even get a keg of it for Beer Week, as the promised kegs turned out to be bottles! So who thinks we don't rate high enough for the "honor" of getting kegs? Not the owner of Imbibe- back when the organizer of Beer Week and I went to talk to him months ago, we specifically talked about getting kegs not normally distributed here and talked about Green Flash. He was all for it, and put in a call to Admiral Beverage, the distributor of Green Flash. Up until the actual event Friday, he apparently thought he was getting the beer in kegs. So as of right now, I don't know if it is Admiral Beverage not trying hard enough to get kegs in our market, or Green Flash not being willing, but I promise I will find out for you. I'm sorry to give you misinformation as to what was being tapped, and I can only hope that this is the last time during Beer Week that we are left disappointed.
